What to look for as a couple

The best couples gear supports comfort and control for the person who is learning. Think positioning support that straightens the angle between mouth and throat, soft surfaces for knees and neck, and items that make clean-up quick so you can stay relaxed afterwards.

Our selection checklist

  • Positioning wedges or cushions that support the neck and back.
  • Soft, washable mats, towels and covers.
  • Body-safe sleeves and toys made from nonporous materials.
  • Water-based lube that suits both of you.
  • Easy-care materials with clear cleaning instructions.
  • Discreet packaging offered by the retailer wherever possible.

Safety notes

Gear never replaces communication. Agree on a stop signal that works without words, let the learning partner set depth and pace, and stop at once if anything hurts. Practice sober and only when you both want to.

Our editorial buying guide

Start with one supportive cushion and a good lube, then add items only when you know what helps. Choose firm foam over soft pillows for positioning, since it keeps its shape. Our guide on how to deep throat without gagging explains which positions most beginners find easiest, and the Couples board on our forum is open to read.
